I wasn’t sure that going to a cat show in San Jose was something that should be covered on this Substack, it has nothing to do with perfume or beauty, and fashion is a little bit of a stretch. But I get to make the calls here and so you’re going to hear about all of the delights I encountered at the Tails & No Tales Cat Club Show in San Jose this weekend, and believe me there were many.
My favorite thing is how we got here. Jason was randomly searching for cat shows a few weeks ago. I have no idea WHY Jason was randomly searching for cat shows but the fact that he was only reinforces my love for him. We wondered if it might be something like the Willy Wonka Experience and while it did feel homegrown it was homegrown in the best way possible. I am not lying that I was squealing with glee from the minute we walked into the low-ceilinged fluorescent-lit building. It was full of cats, cat people, humans meowing at cats, and some serious cat lovers. We were in the movie Best in Show but with cats. And surprisingly it did not smell like cat pee.
There were vendors, over a hundred cats, and several judging stations. There were also many many floofy cats. Have you ever watched a cat show? These judges know their stuff. I had no idea what they were talking about but as soon as they started commenting on glitter in a cat’s coat (this is an actual, real thing) and coats that had fur as beautiful as the smoothest black paten leather I was hooked.
Not gonna lie, the floofy cats were my favorite.
I mean as far as I can tell being a cat judge just means you get to cuddle with and talk about cats for hours on end. Not a bad job.
But you came here for fashion
Oh and there was some style. I mean I’ll start by saying I put some real effort into my outfit and I kind of wish I saw more of this at the cat show. I read that there was going to be a cat costume contest and I was looking forward to watching that. But I saw zero people dressed as cats.
The booth where Josh and I bought these adorable cat houses was run by these two very cool ladies and my purchases may have been influenced by their style. We liked talking to them. And I gotta support my fellow nail girlies.
They were from Lil Wild Pets and after stalking their IG page I now see the cat contest was not for humans, but for cats, my bad. Here’s a video of the action:
I was also pretty delighted that when I ran after this dude wearing the Cat Dad t-shirt I captured this woman wearing an equally great Hiss t-shirt.
And then there was this icon, her jacket, her hair, her investment in watching these cats get judged. I wanted to know more about her, but I also didn’t want to bother her. I’d like to think this will be me and Andre at the cat show in 20 years, even though he sat this one out and didn’t show any real excitement for the cat show (we’ll work on that).
I’ll leave you with some more photos from the day. If you ever get the chance to go to a cat show, run don’t walk. I mean if you like cats. If you don’t sorry for this post and I’ll talk about perfume and beauty stuff next week.
This is extremely important journalism, thank you for your service.
Best day of my life.
