I haven’t kept any of the resolutions I told myself I’d stick to in January. It’s six months into a year that has felt like five years, and I am in a very different headspace than I was at the start of the year. I hate resolutions, but I try to go into a new year with intention. It never sticks, but there’s a hopeful part of me that keeps trying.
One of the few things I have stuck to consistently this year is Dry Down Diaries. It’s been almost two years at this, and I love it more than I thought I could. Do I feel like I am too obsessed with writing here, and does it take up way more of my brain space than it should? Probably. But it’s also really fun, and I am so grateful you all keep reading. I think it’s time well spent, connecting with this community, getting to talk to artists, perfumers, collectors, and people who share my passion, and giving them a space here to share their stories.
I’ve also been tracking what perfume I wear every day since January 1st. I log it in my Notes app. It’s become a database of every scent I’ve worn with mini reviews on each one. I’m obsessed with tracking it, and I love that you all want to read these posts. So, thank you for motivating me to stick with at least one habit this year.
As a thank you to my paid subscribers, you have full access to these posts and the opportunity to win five decants from my collection. To enter, leave a comment telling me which scent I wore in June you’d most want to try. I’ll pick one person at random to send five decants to, I usually include samples too.
If you’re not a paid subscriber yet, you can upgrade anytime. Everyone has an equal shot, and these posts don’t usually get a ton of comments, so your odds are pretty good. I also send perfume recs to paying subscribers who want them. Either way, thanks for reading! 💖
Onto my June wears!
June 1 - Un Attimo by Capsule - Vacation in a bottle. A little sunscreen, a little sweat, a little ocean air. It’s a beautiful blend of neroli, musk, amber, and—of course—jasmine, which pretty much guarantees it’ll be a repeat wear for me. If you’re in LA, check out Capsule (if you haven’t already), it’s close to Scent Bar, so you can easily hit both in one trip.
June 2 - Xtra Milk by Dedcool and Blur by Fum - You’ve heard me drone on about Xtra Milk before. I love it. No, it’s not the most groundbreaking or niche fragrance out there, but it’s comfort in a bottle. I travel with it, it’s an easy reach for me, and for the price, it’s a no-brainer. If you like creamy, musky skin scents, I think you should have at least a travel-size in your collection.
Then there’s Blur, a more distinctive take on that clean, musky vibe that I also really like. It’s by Fum, a perfume house from Lithuania that I discovered at Scent Fair in LA. These two layer well, and Fum has some great scents. I hope they get a U.S. distributor soon.
June 3 - Up North by Pearfat - this is a fun one. I got it at Scent Fair in LA and loved meeting Alie from Pearfat. This one makes me want to visit Lake Michigan in the summertime. It’s an aquatic breezy citrus.
