Before I get into the nails I need to tell you about this perfume by

Sable Yong
. She created it for her new book also called Die Hot with a Vengeance and I’ve been wearing it daily. The book is a collection of essays on the beauty industry, something Sable knows well as she’s been a beauty journalist her entire career and edited and written for Allure, Vogue, Elle, Nylon, The New York Times, to name a few. Sable also hosts one of my favorite podcasts, Smell Ya Later with co-host Tynan Sinks.

The perfume though! It is the perfection combination of sweet and dark. A deep leather and dark cherry red. These descriptions from her website nail it tbh: Red wine spilled in a Birkin bag. Smeared lipstick on suede (that’s never going to come out). Maraschino cherry juice. Fresh tire tread on a cool night’s asphalt. Thrown cake. I already convinced one friend to order it. It’s limited edition. You’re supporting an indie perfumer and journalist. It smells amazing. I don’t know what other reasons you need. You should also be sure to check out Sable’s Substack

Hard Feelings
.

A great perfume benefitting Gaza by Level 1 Studio.

Two sets to share with you this week since I forgot to share my last set. And one more look at this perfect coquette strawberry set from July. I keep my nails in a highlight on my personal IG so if you want to see any of these in motion you can check them out here. Major appreciation and love for my nail artist Kim who not only keeps my nails looking fresh as hell but who I look forward to seeing and catching up with every month. We pack a lot of stories into an hour and a half and I adore my time with her. She sometimes opens her schedule up to new clients to be sure to follow her here.

I have this thing where I like to go from light and happy to dark and moody with my nails. Chaotic and then calm. It’s all about balance, right? Kim does amazing things with gems and blobs and I knew I wanted my set for my August New York trip to be shiny and textured. This is a chrome set with blobs she also covered in chrome and lots of metal bits and gems tucked in. In motion these nails were like beetle’s wings, changing color depending on how the light hit them. She also tucked an evil eye in there, I saw it in her box of gems and asked if she thought it would be a weird addition. But Kim is a more is more type of person and of course she said it would fit, it matches if we want it to match.

I loved this set so much. I was constantly mesmerized by my nails and played with the texture as it if were a fidget toy. This set stopped at least two people dead in their tracks, a flight attendant who yelled about them during drink service and asked me a million questions and a waitress who took my order, saw my nails, and then told me she totally forgot my order because she was so distracted by my nails. Similar to getting stopped to be asked about your perfume by a stranger, I will never tire of people asking about my nails. They’re art! I feel lucky to walk around with these mini masterpieces on my fingertips. I love seeing them bring joy to other people too.

After that metallic moody set I wanted light and bright and some hand painted art on my fingers again. For inspiration I sent Kim the fantastical art by Masako Miki. I love the colors and shapes and weird blobs. I told Kim I wanted a white base but beyond that I was totally open to the colors she wanted to pick and her interpretation of this work. She nailed it (pun intended).

These are a color explosion, pure joy, and this fat cat on my thumb! I want a set of them in the future.

It is very hard to capture thumb nail art.

New set in a week … still undecided on what to get. Any requests or ideas?! Tell me in the comments.

Products I’m loving

I am far from a beauty blogger but I thought I’d share a handful of products that have been in rotation for me recently. Making this a benefit for my paying subscribers who I am super grateful for!

First up is this lip stain which is maybe the best lip stain I have ever tried and it will be in forever rotation for me. I hate how lipstick gets everywhere and comes off like 10 minutes after I apply it. I really appreciate how pulled together a pop of color on my lips can make me look.
